Good News Alert - His Work Stopped Him From Praying & Going to Jummah - Now That Case is Settled in his Favor

Good News Alert!

Earlier in the year, CAIR-Texas Austin & DFW received a troubling case of a devout Muslim man who was hired to work for a company in Texas. During his employment, he requested a break to pray Duzhr (the afternoon Muslim prayer), an obligation in Islam. He asked for leave on Friday to go and pray Jummah Salath (the Friday congregational prayers).

After repeated back and forth, this Muslim man was denied both rights. This was wrong according to the Civil Rights Act of 1964, that ‘prohibits discrimination based on race, color, religion, sex, or national origin.”

Employers are required to provide “reasonable accommodations” to employees who practice their sincerely held religious beliefs.

Alhamdulilah, after hearing about this situation, our team jumped into action to do an initial intake and get this Muslim man an employment attorney. We are proud to announce that the case was settled in his favor.

All American Muslims must know that they have the right to reasonably practice their religion at work. It takes courage to stand up for your rights and seek help. We are truly grateful to this Muslim man for standing up for his rights and contacting our office.
