Dear Community Members,
Like many of you, I've been watching the unfolding events in Afghanistan as the Taliban has taken control of the country. I know all of us have various political views and opinions on what's going on. However, all of us agree that the greatest victim of the U.S. failed strategy is the people of Afghanistan, who continue to suffer.
Over the past week, our office has received calls from desperate Afghans who were interpreters or assisted in building a better Afghanistan. They are trying to get themselves and their families out of the country. One of our clients told me of the tragic murder of his brother and how his family is moving from house to house to stay safe.
All of us have to do our part to help the Afghan people.
This is what we're doing at CAIR-TX Austin & DFW:
- Legal: Providing Afghans legal help to navigate the Immigration process & expedite bringing their families to the U.S.
- Political: Working with Congressional Offices to advocate for Afghans who were vital to the U.S.
- Long Term: Typically, only the immediate family can come to the U.S. However, parents and other relatives who are in danger are not. Our office will work with Afghans to help them be reunited with their family in the long term.
I believe we have a responsibility to help the people of Afghanistan who have suffered for generations build a better life for themselves and Afghanistan.
